Astyanax (Mojarra Cola Roja)
I always wanted to design some small streamer to imitate the small fish that inhabit the Cordoba mountain rivers and that many times are persecuted and eaten by salmonids in those places where they share the habitat.
Of these small fish the Red-tailed Mojarras (Astyanax) are the ones that always attracted me a lot, in fact I have fished them many times and it’s a lot of fun.
I developed a model that convinced me after several attempts.
This is the recipe for this fly that has just been born on my fly tying bench and that I want to share:
Hook: For streamers flies (your choice) in size 12
Thread: Uni-Thread 8/0 white
Tail: Red hackle fibers
Rib: Fine wire silver or gold (your choice)
Body: White floss
Collar/Throat: Golden Badger hackle without black center from the side of the neck.
Wing: A pair of Golden Badger feathers for streamers
I promise to show pictures of the catches !!!
